English Rose Tea Cup – Salisbury – Summertime

This teacup is a piece of fine vintage English tableware produced by the Salisbury China Company, which manufactured fine bone china at the Salisbury Works in Longton, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, England.

The Manufacturer: Originally founded in 1927 as the Salisbury Crown China Company, the name was simplified to Salisbury China in 1949. The brand operated until 1961 when it was acquired by Thomas Poole, who ultimately ceased production of Salisbury patterns in 1972.

The Design & Era: The “Summertime” pattern features an elegant arrangement of large yellow and deep-crimson burgundy roses flanked by shaded green leaves and dark foliage. Given the hallmark styles and the shape of the footed cup, it likely dates from the late 1940s to the 1950s. It is characterized by a brushed gold gilt rim, a decorated footed base, and a delicate gold-accented loop handle.
